La Europa del siglo XV General Historia de Europa 18/08/200909/06/202227 Es la época del Renacimiento en Europa, iniciada en Italia el siglo anterior. Estamos en el Quattrocento. Reaparece el humanismo, éste dio un impulso a las ciencias, la filosofía y el arte basándose en el antiguo saber de los griegos y los romanos. Sus características fundamentales son el dar mayor importancia al individuo (antropocentrismo) y el uso de la razón como motor del conocimiento. El hombre pasa a ser el centro del mundo, se canta y se ama al hombre, a la naturaleza, a la política, a la filosofía. Uno de los hitos más importantes de la época es la invención de la imprenta, que permitió la extensión y distribución de grandes obras científicas y literarias. La lucha entre los reyes y la nobleza y el clero poco a poco va siendo ganada por los primeros, creando poderosos estados centralizados (Castilla, Francia, Inglaterra). Llegan los estados modernos con su burocracia, sus ejércitos y sus leyes. En 1452 se produce la caída de Constantinopla en manos de los turcos cortando la ruta del comercio europeo hacia Asia, sus especias y tejidos. Este hecho fue importantísimo ya que el nuevo hombre renacentista no se rendirá y buscará nuevas rutas de acceso a sus productos, lo que llevó a la circunnavegación de África por los portugueses y al proyecto de Cristobal Colón de acceder al mercado asiático navegando hacia el oeste atravesando la Mar Océana, lugar misterioroso y oscuro para los coetáneos, y que derivaría en el Descubrimiento de un nuevo continente y su conquista y colonización por los castellanos.
